Whilst JC may welcome the snap decision to change rules and to be voted on by Parliament tomorrow, perhaps enshrining his place at the top table for a further seven years as 'opposition' leader ...

Top 'Twonks' - Stashed & Slashed

Benefitz Betty's picture

We don't have to look far to find Members of the Government's 'Twonks', 'Tories' or 'Nasti Party' who are all too willing to support Slasher Osborne and his version of Austerity measures that punish the most poor and vulnerable.

It might only be £30 per week ...

Why 'Devolution' Matters

Mortal Mindy's picture

Erm, because you don't get a say? It will undermine democracy.

Hailed as a 'Devolution of Powers' from Westminster  each devoluted Region or Combined Authority will have a Mayor, who would be ultimately held accountable and responsible.   Why is one person to be a scapegoat for the decisions of many?

As an example, lets look at a South Yorkshire Combined Authortiy:

Mortal Mindy's picture

Labour's position on unconventional hydraulic fracturing for shale gas 'fracking' has been unclear.  Chuka Umunna at Labour Conference Sept 2014 was asked "What is Labour's position on 'fracking?' His response was then "we do not directly oppose 'fracking' but are concerned and extremely cautious over any environmental impacts."

HS2 - A Passage Thru Parliament?

Mortal Mindy's picture

Of course HS2 started as a devious pre election Labour Party plot by Lord Adonis. In 2009 I was at Brighton at conference 'work shop' along with our then PPC, when Adonis presented his plans for a massive investment to improve the rail links between London and Brimingham, and further to Manchester, along the West Coast Mainline.   I remember wanting to ask then, what about the East Coast?  What has this got to do with us? So we left.   "Prime Minister Gordon Brown hailed the announcement as 'most exciting'.
