Scarborough Borough Council have so far refused to entertain any plans for a Community Asset Transfer for the former Indoor Pool building on the basis that the site is part of a future development. To date, they have refused to say who or what those development plans, if any and with who, are.

The legal wrangle brewing between Scarborough Borough Council & Benchmark over the wider area of the Sands Development is expected to be long drawn out and may take years.

Places can be over dependent on one industry.

"It’s fair to say that Yorkshire has seen its share of industries that have been shut down with nothing to replace them leaving big economic holes in local communities.

This is equally true at a global level. In our increasingly leisure inclined world there can be a perception that places are tourist destinations and not much else..."

The sanitisation of North Yorkshire, where only the democratic elite have a voice..:

""Everywhere else in the borough has parish councils to look after the most local matters, but Scarborough does not.

I do not agree with the system of elected mayors, which puts too much power in the hands of one person, and I’m not happy about the prospect of local government becoming less local with the change to large unitary authorities... "

"Councils in the area have until September to submit their proposals for what the future unitary authority could look like.

Steve Siddons, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said: "We would support that. I would certainly support that and I think that makes far more sense than the complex system that we have in place. The services would still be provided locally. It would bring more money into the local economy, it means that we'll have more control over economic regeneration, transport and over infrastructure."

Here We Are

"I write to question the motives of our local authorities in denying outsiders, visitors and tourists to share our coastline, enjoy our natural environment, beaches, opens spaces and fresh air at possibly the most crucial time in our social recent history."

They will of course argue that they were protecting ... each other?

A New Era

Of some interest is that Anglo American were not represented at the 'vote' and have been very quiet on their future for the Woodsmith mine, and indeed Boulby mine.

North Bay 2020

The North Bay, which paves the way for a North Bay Wall as Benchmark is set to leave the bloc on the 31st December 2020, is now awaiting royal assent.  Local residents said  the Sands could now "move forwards as one" and put "years of rancour and division behind it".

Benchmark's top officials are expected to sign an agreement in the coming days, while SBC will vote on it next week.
