OK its not a bank for dogs, 'Doggerbank'  the much heralded Windfarm development off our North East Coast is currently under PINS for 'Application by Forewind Ltd for an Order Granting Development Consent for the Dogger Bank Teesside A & B Offshore Wind Farm'.  The latest Questions to the Panel has a deadline of 5th February 2015.  Of some mild interest is the applicants proposal at Wilton, and the status of fishing activities 'in the Dogger Bank Site of Community Interest (SCI)'.

Sink Holes

Whilst on the subject of Cows ... back in August there appeared a rather large hole in the County of Durham, alas my broomstick had its feathers clipped, and the extent of the damage to said hole is still up for exploration:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-28927743  "A giant sinkhole that has opened up on farmland in County Durham has continued to cause increasing concern as it threatens to get bigger, a landowner said.

Friends of the Earth, (FOE) have published "All that glitters..." (June 2014) stating that 'Current regulation of unconventional gas and oil exploration in England is inadequate'

FOE put forward their role;  'As part of this work, over the last three years, we have been closely tracking the regulation of the unconventional gas and oil industry in the UK' and have a local, national and international knowledge and influence base in which to help local communities.

The Futurist - Dreaming ...

Time is running out for the Futurist Theatre,  a decision is due to be made by full council in 9 days on Monday 12th May.   The 'Save the Futurist Campaigners' have as yet failed to deliver a business plan or submit any formalised alternative.  Led by Cllr Janet Jefferson who opposes the closure and redevelopment of the Futurist site the Campaigners were given a three month window to put forward a viable plan to the Officers and Cabinet in December 2013.  Item 6 of the Agenda : http://democracy

The Land of the Five Rivers

Enshrouded in the mists of time, born out of the heat, dust, and slime, Panch for five, ab for rivers, was the Land of the Five Rivers.

The Jhelum, Sutlej, Ravi, Beas and Chenab gave the area the name of the Punjab. Canals were dug in the land between to make our country rich and green.
