Todays full Council meeting, following on from Paint it Black, always trust your instinct. So with that in mind I will put Macbeth back in the shadows and return to Hamlet.
Item 6(i) The Futurist - Janet Jefferson gave her statement about the purpose of the petition signed by lots of people : SN report "Campaigners Claim A Victory": http://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/news/local/futurist-campaigners-clai... - hardly, just a further delay but it will be put before the 'Board' that is the Joint Venture Board, HCA and Scarborough Borough Council Development Board. David Chance "it is the 5th largest theatre in the UK because the others have closed" "it is not sustainable". Mike Cockerill "we do not need to work to protect the Futurist, we do need to work to protect the Future".
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them.
Item 7 (ii) Resolution - The recommendation from the S151 officer that the scheme is unaffordable - unanimously. Action - to move up to a higher authority to resolve financial issues eg NYCC and ask Robert Goodwill MP to approach how the Environment Agency do their funding.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin?
Item 10 SN "Council strips honours from disgraced Jaconelli" - http://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/news/crime/council-strips-honours-fr...
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveler returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
With camera coverage from BBC's Look North and the Real Whitby 'busters' team filming with some jeering, imo it took a lot of courage for just one man to stand up and say though he was appalled by what Peter Jaconelli had been accused of and appalled for the vitims, Jaconelli had been his ward councillor, had worked hard as a Councillor and for his ward and therefore he would not be voting for this (that took some balls)
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.
Perhaps the shadow of 'revenge' that was cast over todays somewhat emotive yet muted proceedings, the penny only dropped (cannonball style) outside of the official 'Agenda'. That is someone elses story. As only a witness, on the outside looking in, and despite what some may say, there was a lot of strength and a lot of love in that Town Hall chamber today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAQ4sJZ5IsU
